PALM Training at AHES

AHES PalmTrainingAgana Heights Elementary School (AHES) began its journey with PALM handhelds in the classroom last November 14, 2006. Seven teachers from AHES (and three teachers from another school) attended the first of a series of training sessions that I am conducting.

Our first meeting was the basic introductory session. The handhelds were not ready yet, so I showed a video and went through a lot of information regarding PALM handhelds — showing the PALM website, going through a number of favorite websites geared towards PALM handhelds in the classroom, and so on and so forth.

The attendees were very excited about the first meeting and the were looking forward to the next one — where they’ll get to “play” with the handhelds.

The AHES teachers did indicate that they wanted the training to focus on using the handhelds for writing. They would like to assess whether the writing skills of students will improve after a year or so of handheld use in the classroom.

As with all training on PALM handhelds, I mentioned that before any curricular use of the handhelds, teachers (and students) need to go through some level of training for use of the handhelds — navigating through the devices, understanding programs and layouts, and learning how to do some basic troubleshooting.

So … more on the AHES training later — and a few more pictures as well. :)
