“Ubiquitous Computing”

As I was listening to Eric Johnson’s ideas this morning, the work of Mark van’t Hooft and his colleagues came to mind. Their research on Ubiquitous Computing relates very much to Eric’s discussion on “always on access”. Mark and his group have been investigating how anytime, anywhere, anyone technology is changing education. Ubiquitous computing is all about transparent access to technology that is most often wireless, mobile, and networked. This makes its users more connected to the world around them and the people in it. This is what the PALM T|X and the Treo Smartphones have been able to offer.

To learn more about Ubiquitous Computing — what it is, where it came from, why it’s important, what it means for teaching and learning, etc. — contact the Research Center for Educational Technology of Kent State University for an amazing FREE DVD. This DVD contains a lot of information about the topic and is presented in a very engaging interactive format.
