Blogging 101 & 102
We had our official class on Educational Blogging for graduate credit. In attendance today, Saturday, March 11, 2006 were: Cecille, Norman, Kathy, Ichie, Chris, and Maricel. I provided information about the graduate credit requirements of the class. We will probably meet twice for the class, but the rest of the time, it would be blogging with a little bit of guidance on topics from me.
Participants will be using EduBlogs from www.edublogs.org. (Incidentally, EduBlogs.org has released a new blog service — eslblogs.org. Might be worthwhile to check this out and share with / require for ESL students.)
I went through each and every menu item in the WordPress enging of the blog — from the Dashboard all the way to Yacapaca.
After this show-and-tell-and-try session, I introduced the Blog Subscription service at BlogLines (www.bloglines.com). I went through the whole bit of subscribing to other participants’ blogs as well as their own. By doing this, all of the blogs they would want to read/comment to are located in one area, the BlogLines website. It was very easy to sign up for this service — provide an account name, an email address, send the application — then check your email, click on the confirmation link — and voila! Your own BlogLines account!
Everyone seemed to be able to follow along in the class. It seems now that everyone has been using their blogs for a few weeks, their understanding, use, and appreciation of the technology are all developing favorably.
We ended the session ealier than what was published on the schedule with a show-and-tell of podcasts and vodcasts of 3rd grade students on handhelds and 6th grade Social Studies podcasts. A Saturday morning well-spent!
