Thoughts on eBooks…
This was a comment to Rekha’s post on eBooks:
“I agree with Janet. I know there are eBooks of Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series. I may refer to those for passages I’d like to review — scenes I may have forgotten. But I would rather hold books of those types and bundle up with them — thick crisp pages in hand.
eBooks, I think, have an important place in replacing certain texts, or introducing current material. With the ability to send eBooks from one handhheld to another by infra-red beaming, they are quick to distribute. A whole class of 20 students could have their (moderately-sized) eBooks beamed to each and every one of them in under three minutes. I see eBooks replacing certain texts — also introducing portions of text in a classroom. eBooks in literature high school classes, I believe, could mean a reduction in print outs/photocopies of passages of one of the works of Shakespeare, for instance.
eBooks will find a strong niche to hold onto and settle in. It is truly best to be familiar with them, use them, and share the technology with others.”
